Sanjay Gupta's Shootout At Wadala depicts the first ever cop-underworld shootout in Mumbai showing us nothing that we haven't seen before in his other films: bulging biceps, gang of boys, a lot of excruciating slow motion (which makes up for nearly the entire movie) and stylized shots, intense cops and love making scenes. The voice overs and the back and forth into flashbacks is unconvincing. Shootout At Wadala had great potential but the movie comes as a disappointment, especially as it has been played up as one of the biggest releases of the year. The item numbers and there are three of them, are redundant and except for Babli, jarring. To give Sameer Arya due credit, he has made the movie visually striking. Shootout At Wadala boasts of a huge cast that includes the likes of John Abraham, Kangna Ranaut, Anil Kapoor, Manoj Bajpai, Sonu Sood and Mahesh Manjrekar. Coming to the most important member in the cast, John Abraham who plays Manya Surve, the new boy on the block as far as morbid gangsters are concerned, fails to impress. His all too earnest, deadpan look comes across as bored or like a raging bull at best and it would be best not to comment on his dialogue delivery where he is mostly screaming. He may carry off the look well but that's about it. Manoj Bajpai and Sonu Sood try to put in their best efforts with what they are given. Anil Kapoor is quintessential Anil Kapoor. Kangna Ranaut is okay. Ronit Roy and Mahesh Manjrekar are fine. The movie may attract huge audiences in single screen theatres owing to its star power, item numbers and action which is aplenty but Balaji and White Feather Films' Shootout at Wadala gets 2 stars from us. -- Published on May 4, 2013
