Akshay Kumar's Fugly features a bunch of young guns Gaurav (Vijender Singh), Devi(Kiara Advani), Aditya(Arfi Lamba) & Dev(Mohit Marwah) living a care-free life, but things take a 'Fugly' turn when they run into bad cop Chautala aka, Jimmy Sheirgill. Directed by Kabir Sadanand, Fugly, is a coming-of-age tale which may seem like a fun and games flick but tackles political and social issues and sends out the message that we should be the change we want to see. Fugly is not a bad effort but not that great either. If you can sit through the initial twenty minutes then the rest of the film is tolerable and gets easier to watch. The music is cacophanous is accompanied by a weak screenplay. Anil Kapoor's nephew Mohit Marwah looks suitably hunky and though he has a ways to go acting wise, he tends to grow on you. Vijender Singh is convincing as the cocky young haryanvi, Kiara Advani does well and Arfi Lamba is bearable. After years of insignificant characters, Jimmy Sheirgill seems to have found his niche playing negative roles. His portrayal of the sarcastic, mean cop is the highlight of fugly. By the way, here's a spoiler, if you sit through Fugly waiting for Salman and Akshay's song to come on screen... then don't... the stars are a no show. -- Published on June 14, 2014
