Supernatural horror with thrills, magic, fantasy is what ekta kapoor dishes out to spook you with in her latest flick 'Ek Thi Dayaan'. This daayan fest stars Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Huma Qureshi and Konkona Sen Sharma and is jointly produced by Balaji Films and Vishal Bhardwaj pictures, marking the directorial debut of Kannan Iyer. The film revolves around illusionist come magician Bobo who is troubled by hallucinations from his dark past. Bobo (Emraan Hashmi) is leading the good life as a successful magician with his girlfriend Tamra (Huma Qureshi) when he starts getting troubled by hallucinations from his dark past. A past that involves a daayan/witch. Bobo believes that it is this daayan who is haunting him. Well for what happens next you have to watch the movie. Although 'Ek Thi Daayan' is a compelling watch and keeps you on the edge of your seat in the first half, it loses pace post interval and its grip in the all important climax. Emraan Hashmi delivers his performance with sincerity while Konkona is so good that she gives you goose bumps. Kalki is super and Huma qureshi turns in a decent performance. Vishesh Tiwari playing the young Bobo is excellent. Pawan Malhotra and Rajatava Dutta hold their own. Kannan Iyer is successful in avoiding the usual pitfalls that makers of Indian horror flicks fall into and gives us a fairly decent creepy movie based on the occult. 'Ek Thi Daayan' is definitely not a movie that will give you sleepless nights but a word of caution, this movie is not for children. -- Published on April 20, 2013
