Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who is known for making films that celebrate a woman's sensuality, claims that he has never depicted women as a commodity in his films.

"If you go through the body of my work you'lI see that I have never ever looked at a woman as a commodity. I dare anyone to pick any film of mine and say that here the woman was a commodity, whether it was 'Arth' with Shabana Azmi, 'Swayam' with Waheeda Rahman, 'Daddy' with Pooja Bhatt or 'Murder'. You people choose to remember 'Murder' as a mere 't*t and as*' film, at the heart of the film was a woman who says that I'll not cry at the corner of my bedroom because my husband doesn't have time for me. She goes out and looks for carnal pleasure which is the right of a woman. In our male chauvinistic society men have taken it as their right to go out and satisfy their carnal appetite, but if a woman does it you call her all kind of names," he stated at an event.

"I made 'Zakhm', which was my autobiographical film, sourced from my memory of my own mother, who was a brave woman who chose to have a relationship outside marriage, which could shame any so called traditional relationship. I come from a home where my mother was the fountain head of all my wisdom. I have always looked at women as people with great wisdom," he further added. The filmmaker is presently looking forward to the release of the third series of his Murder franchise. 'Murder 3' stars Aditi Rao Hydari and Randeep Hooda in the lead roles and will also mark the directorial debut of Vishesh Bhatt. -- Published on January 13, 2013
